سياحته وُلد في الإسكندرية ولما بلغ ثلاثة عشر عامًا مضى إلى برية شيهيت وسكن عند راهبٍ في قلاية صغيرة لمدة عشرين سنة
ثم توجه إلى البرية وسكن في روضة بها شجر زيتون ونخيل، يأخذ ما يسقط منها على قدر حاجته ويشرب ماء الأمطار
وكان لباسه من ليف النخيل وسعفه، وكانت الحيوانات تأنس إليه، وظل على هذا الحال خمسة وثلاثين عامًا
سقوطه وتوبته حسده الشيطان فتقدم إليه في صورة شيخ وحكى له أنه إنسان غني كان يحيا حياة الفساد ثم وزع ماله على الفقراء، وانه يسكن مدينة في الخمس مدن الغربية بالقرب من برقة، وأن الله كشف له أن ساعة موته قد قربت
وصارا يمشيان معًا في البرية حتى وصلا إلى قصرٍ عظيم، فقال له الشيخ أن بوفاته يصير هذا القصر له وابنته يتخذها له زوجة
ولما رأى القديس أن الشيخ قارب الوفاة وافقه على طلبه
فانتبه لوقته ليجد نفسه وسط البرية خائفًا وجائعًا ولا وجود للقصر، فعلم أنه وقع في حيلة عدو الخير
نزل إلى الإسكندرية فقابله الشيطان في صورة فتاة، أقنعته أن يبيت عندها
ثم قالت له أنها ابنة أحد الملوك وتريد أن تتزوجه
فوافقها بعد أن أقنعته بكرامة الزواج تَمثُلاً بإبراهيم واسحق ويعقوب
ثم ادعت أنها يهودية وأنه لابد أن يصير على إيمانها حتى يتزوجا، فجحد المسيح
أخذته إلى البرية وهناك هزأ منه الشيطان، فتمرغ في التراب وأطال التضرع والبكاء إلى الله الحنون الذي أرسل إليه القديس الأنبا صموئيل والذي أعلمه أنه سيتنيح بعد ثلاثة أيام
ثم أخذه وناوله من الأسرار المقدسة بعد أن اعترف له بكل ما فعله الشيطان به
تنيح بسلام، فدفنه الأنبا صموئيل وكتب سيرته وسلمها لرجل مسافر إلى الإسكندرية لمنفعة المؤمنينread
