بعد نياحة البابا بنيامين الثاني (82) ظل الكرسي خاليًا قرابة عام، وأخيرًا اُختير الأب بطرس داود الذي ترهب بدير الأنبا مقاريوس ثم صار كاهنًا لدير شهران، وأخيرًا البابا 83، وذلك في أواخر حكم الملك الناصر بن قلاوون، عام 1340م

في أيامه عانى شعبه من ضيق شديد حلّ بالأقباط بسبب قاضي في أحد المدن كان قد سجن قبطيًا بدعوى أن جده غير مسيحي وأراد أن يلزمه بإنكار الإيمان، وإذ رفض أخرجه الأقباط من السجن فتحولت المدينة إلى العنف ضد الأقباط، حيث تعرض الكثيرون للعذابات، بل ونُبشت القبور لإحراق جثث الأموات
وإذ ساد الارتباك الشديد المدينة قدم الحاكم شكوى لسلطان مصر، الذي قام بعزل القاضي
قام بطبخ الميرون بدير أبي مقار ومعه اثني عشر أسقفًا، ثم عاد وعانى من المرارة التي عاشها الشعب الذين اضطروا إلى ملازمة منازلهم مدة، حتى بدوا وكأنهم قد انقرضوا
لم يكف البابا عن الصلاة من أجل شعبه حتى رفع الله هذه الضيقات وتمتعت الكنيسة بجوٍ من الهدوء والراحة ما كاد يتمتع به البابا حتى طُلبت نفسه في 8 يوليو 1348 (14 أبيب 1064ش)
